Alright, The Analytics Edge is almost over. It has been more than 2 months in the course and I feel like I have learned a lot about Machine Learning. This is probably the best MOOC that I’ve taken so far and I hope other courses that I’m taking right now, are at least as good as this one.

I first learned about Machine Learning when I was doing my masters. But this class took me to a whole another level. The best part of the course is that it takes real world problems and uses machine learning to solve it. The course covers almost most of the basic and important algorithms and uses R as the go to language. I think people who didn’t have experience with R struggled as there is a steep learning curve but I guess after a couple of days they got the hang of it. I generally used Python for Data Science stuffs but I guess R is now my primary language. But I use Python exclusively to write scripts and understanding algorithms.

The course opens up a private competition on Kaggle and is 15% towards the final grade. Apparently, MITx didn’t care enough and put up the competition similar to last years’ and many students cheated their way to the top. I’m not really sure about this but I’ve heard the same from many other students. Personally I think it’s uncool but I guess some people want to win no matter what.

Anyway, to complement this course I’ve taken up Statistical Learning by Stanford University. I’m actively applying for Data Scientist/Machine Learning positions and I hope I get one soon so that I can apply my “Machine Learning” skills to help businesses and accelerate my professional growth.
